Project Description

Hypnosis, the book.

Preface by Guy Tal

At the end of the first decade of the 2000s I realized I was suffering from mood disorders, which compromised and altered my habits, my daily life and my serene living. I began to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, it was one of the darkest periods of my life. Anxiety and depression are demons that grope in the darkest depths of the mind, generated and stimulated by past events or a hereditary component.

Those who suffer from this problem have the feeling of living perpetually in the shadows, in anguish, dizziness that emphasize the disorder giving rise to a vicious circle. Nowadays it is possible to effectively control anxiety and depressive disorders, science has made colossal steps towards therapeutic innovations and currently you can rely on therapeutic approaches useful to combat anxiety and depressive forms.

In my case, hypnotherapy, a model of psychotherapy that aims at a deeper psychological change, has been of fundamental importance. Through a state of trance induced by a professional you explore unimaginable places of the subconscious. All explorations in trance give strong emotions, it is necessary to have maximum confidence in your guide who will accompany us in a deep state of relaxation in which our senses will be amplified and the soul will seem to detach itself from the body navigating to other dimensions.

In 2017 it leapt into my mind the idea of creating Hypnosis, an authorial photographic book that would recount my visual experiences that occurred during trans hypnotic journeys, meticulous photographic illustration of dreamscapes of the deep subconscious.

To create the book Hypnosis I chose a purely territorial approach, among landscapes and natural parks of Calabria, where nature and folklore embellish the wild and mysterious identity of a place extraordinarily unique for its morphologies, realities and different cultures. Realizing Hypnosis required technical refinements and planning, a lot of planning and a totally intimate and introspective vision of a nature “forest of symbols” set in an abstract and timeless dimension. The project, which lasted 6 years, ended in 2021 during the Covid19 pandemic, an event that gave an additional emotional boost.

The book Hypnosis does not want to reproduce an objective reality, I gave life to my visual and emotional experiences, between shadows and lights, melancholy and metamorphosis, a photographic story that begins in the deepest darkness where the ghosts of the past and the innermost secrets are hidden, a landscape that evolves chromatically in a crescendo of sensations in which every single element and change becomes functional and leads to an ethereal vision of inner peace.

Hypnosis is divided into 3 chapters (Darkness, Metamorphosis, Inner peace), each of which required a constant study and a different interpretation of color and mood.

Chapter I – Darkness
The first trance-like journeys began here, in the darkness of the subconscious where the deepest fears are hidden, my shadows. In “Darkness” the visual is disturbing and claustrophobic, small hints of color are the right counterpoint to the suffering, the desire to escape from this state of mind will be more and more alive as the story progresses and the color. The fog envelops the landscape in a shy embrace, the water is the antidote against the demons of the past and leads me with harmony towards the Dama Bianca, elegant waterfall that releases all its purifying power positive energy.

Capitolo II – Metamorphosis
In “Metamorphosis”, between melancholic tones never excessive and a poetic nature, the color becomes the true protagonist of the inner landscapes. The forest is enchanted, pure and of a timeless beauty, my soul absorbs all the positive energies of these trees, which also have a distinct soul that reveals a strong sensitivity. I am fortunate to find myself in this enchanting riot of colors that stimulates and encourages my research, where the muffled sound emphasizes even more the beauty of an ever-changing landscape.

Capitolo III – Inner Peace
The evolution of the landscape fades with the fading colors and the white, the union of all the colors, makes the vision of the place ethereal now frozen in an ‘enchanting beauty. The cold extinguishes that fire imprisoned inside my body, the silence is interrupted by a light wind and the noise of the boots that sink at every step I take, slowing down my walk and letting me enjoy all the magic of the landscape. Through inner peace I accepted my fears and weaknesses, I took control of them and gained awareness. There is no light without darkness, just as there is no art without suffering.

Biography

Antonio Aleo is a professional photographer.
He lives in Calabria, a wonderful place with an almost wild flavor, which combines sea, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests and hilly landscapes.

When he approached the world of photography, he was immediately attracted by the great masters of landscape, nature and documentary photography, among which Joe Cornish, David Ward, Charles Cramer, Christopher Burkett, Art Wolfe, Antoine d’Agata stand out. These helped to raise his interest mainly in introspective photography and Fine Art.

In the naturalistic field he is a fairly territorial photographer and try with his images to bring out the intimate and sentimental side of Calabria, of nature, landscapes, traditions, culture.

He works with Italian and foreign magazines, including In Viaggio (Cairo Editore), Asferico, Onlandscape.

He organizes photographic workshops, teaching his students something that goes beyond the purely technical side, but which has its roots in the soul of the photographer and his personal vision.
