Biography

RAFFAELE GAETANO is internationally known for his fundamental contribution to the study of Leopardi’s thought with the monumental work Giacomo Leopardi e il sublime (Rubbettino, 2002). As a Leopardi researcher, he published also: Beati se non sanno la loro miseria (Periferia, 1996, extended 2nd edition 1997) and L’autore mio prediletto (Rubbettino, 2001), bringing to light in a masterful critic edition the G. Chiarini’s dialogue, Della filosofia leopardiana (Rubbettino 2000). Simultaneously, he worked on the materialist philosopher P.-H. Thiry D’Holbachin in the work La benda sugli occhi (Rubbettino, 1998), focusing gradually his intense research activity on authors, themes, aesthetic theoretical questions, and on travel literature between sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, in which he is one of the most original researcher. He writes several works of a particular publishing value, because of this literary interest: Sull’orlo dell’invisibile (Monteleone, 2006, Laruffa extended 2nd edition, 2014); Avanti all’anima mia (Gigliotti, 2010, Città del Sole extended 2nd edition, 2014); La Calabria nel Viaggio Pittoresco del Saint-Non (Koinè, 2011); Le vedute calabresi del Saint-Non (Rubbettino, 2018). On the aesthetic side, we can remember the critical editions of little known: D. Anzelmi, Estetica di Lettere ed Arti belle (Rubbettino, 2003); P. Ardito, Artista e Critico (Rubbettino, 2009); G. Gravina, della Ragion Poetica (Rubbettino, 2005); J.-C. Richard De Saint- Non, Viaggio Pittoresco (Rubbettino, 2009). With Max Marra he achieved the notebook: Rembrandt e lo specchio infranto della modernità (Quaderni di Orfeo, 2004), whereas with E. Matassi, W. Pedullà and F. Pratesi, he wrote the essay La Bellezza (Rubbettino, 2005). He is a journalist, author of original cultural dissemination programs for radio and television, he directs important literature and philosophy shows.
He is also responsible for the cultural concepts and editorial projects of Entopan – Smart Networks & Strategies.
